A musician enchanted by the sound of the pan flute
I studied at the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava – originally on a different wind instrument. Then came my encounter with the pan flute, and it never let me go. I have devoted myself to it professionally for almost ten years and I am the only Czech player who has made this instrument their main craft.
As an ambassador of the pan flute in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, I bring it to concert stages, television studios, schools and retirement homes. Under the banner of the association Panova flétna, z. s. I create and produce my own concert projects and collaborate with leading artists at home and abroad.
One of the oldest instruments in the world
The pan flute is one of humanity's oldest wind instruments. It bears the name of the Greek god Pan, patron of shepherds and music – according to myth it was born from the reed into which the nymph Syrinx was transformed. Over the centuries it found its way across the world and today it sounds not only in folk music, but also in classical and film music.
Its worldwide phenomenon became Maestro Gheorghe Zamfir, whose renditions of melodies from the films Once Upon a Time in America and Kill Bill are known the world over. Meeting the Maestro in his native Romania is among the highlights of my musical journey – he gave me an enormous dose of inspiration that I want to pass on.
Alongside classical instruments made of bamboo and rare woods, I am the only player in the Czech Republic and Slovakia to also play an exclusive glass pan flute from a Swiss maker – an instrument with a crystal-clear, ethereal tone.
